Broncos vs Chargers: Who’s the Fav Now?

November 26, 2011

Their upcoming game with the San Diego Chargers carries special significance for the Denver Broncos. It was against this team earlier in the season that Tim Tebow was handed the reins of the offense and nearly managed to mount a 4th quarter comeback to steal the game. While that game ended up in the W column for the Chargers, it marked the emergence of Tebow as a serious force behind the steering wheel of his team’s offense. Since then, Tebow has perfected the 4th quarter rally and his team has gone on an impressive winnings streak of 3 games. The Chargers on the other hand haven’t won a single game since the above said encounter. In fact, they’re looking to win at home against the Broncos in order to avoid falling into a 6-game skid, which would be a first for the team in the last 10 years.

The Broncos are currently 5-5 and in a position to duke it out for a playoff spot. They’re also well rested, coming off a 17-13 win against the New York Jets which took place on November 17. Since Tebow took over, the Broncos are an impressive 4-1. Last season they finished 4-12 – not exactly a value spot. The Chargers charged out of the gates in the beginning of the season, building a 4-1 record. They dropped all of their 5 games since though, and they’re a much less impressive 4-6 now.

The main culprit for San Diego’s losing streak is QB Philip Rivers who still says his team is “in it” despite the losses. Rivers has slowly but surely slid into a stride which is the opposite of Tebow’s: Last Sunday, he played well for 3 quarters against the Chicago Bears, but during the 4th, he ran out of steam and had a bunch of interceptions to give the game away.
